Our Story

In early April 2018, Brandon traveled to Santa Barbara where he was working the Alive stage at Lucidity Festival. He spent the days leading up to its opening building sets, programming lights, and creating the forest magic that people attend Lucidity to experience. On the first day, one of his friends arrived announcing he had invited a Lucidity-newbie to camp with them and had brought some of her belongings that she couldn’t fit in her carpool. Brandon helped to set up this woman’s tent and make her feel welcome in their camp when she arrived.

Meanwhile, Jessie was excited to join a friend for her first time at Lucidity. Through the ridesharing program, she secured a carpool to the festival to camp with a group of people she had mostly never met. Much to her surprise, the driver’s erratic movements did not cause a crash and she safely arrived at Lucidity where she met Brandon for the first time. Jessie avoided him the first day because she thought he looked “too cool” in his feathered hat and suede vest, but the next morning she was forced to approach him because he had brought the camp’s snacks for that day. Brandon asked her who she was eating with and when he learned she had intended to eat alone, he invited himself to join. Aww.

Jessie and Brandon ended up eating and walking around together all day, platonically, until that night when she got a stomach ache. Brandon sat with her on the side of the stage until she felt better. He thought Jessie could use a walk to get some fresh air, so they went to look for a sailboat art exhibit she had seen the day before and wouldn’t shut up about. After much searching and frustration from Jessie trying to remember where she saw the sailboat, Brandon was able to locate it. In that sailboat is where the relationship changed from platonic to romantic. Yes, they smooched.

From that moment on, Jessie and Brandon were inseparable. They spent the remaining festival days together and she even canceled her carpool home to go with him instead… but also because she was convinced her carpool’s driving would kill her. On April 7, 2021, on their three-year anniversary, Brandon proposed and Jessie, of course, said yes.

But as she likes to remind him, he better not f*ck up before they get married because, “There’s still time.”
